I have a 05 dodge magnum, the gear doesnt want to pull back into reverse?

when i start the car nd hit the break pull the gear to the side nd go to pulling it back into reverse it wont slide back..i forced it back to reverse nearly feelin like i was going to break it nd nothing .it just feels like it pulling its way back to park
