How do you pronounce the name Mathias?

Depends on who is saying it. I knew a Hispanic woman whose son was names Mathias and she called him Ma-Tie-Us. But most commonly I've heard Ma-Thigh-Us I've never beard Math-Ee-Us before and it sounds slightly awkward to me.
