WHATS WRONG WITH MY BIKE?

alright so i was cycling along and suddenly changed gear,when the pedals stopped turning forward and are now stuck. i can pedal backwards but the gear chain gets all loose and cant go back the whole way,but its still attached. whats wrong and how can i fix this? sorry im no bike expert at all :/
