Im a new stick shift driver and I have a question!!?

Ok I just bought a new car and its a stick. my dad taught me a few times but hes a pro and said Ill learn on my own. So the only question I have is about turning right. When the light is green, and i just need to slow down and turn, I find myslelf just slowing down, putting it in nuetral and after the turn put in 3rd and its smooth sailing. However, is this bad for my car? If I put it 2nd gear I usually let off the clutch and my rpms are too high and it creates that "bump" feeling. So does that mean I have to brake when i make the turn so my speed is low enough to be in 2nd? then the people behind me get pissed if im going to slow!!! When i turn right im going about 15-25 mph....please help and boys dont laugh at me!!
